The Crumblies - entering the London to Tashkent rally

The Team

Barry (left) and Keith (right) with their Suzuki VitaraWe are BARRY BARKER and KEITH JOSLIN. After some thought, a reasonable amount of alcohol and some ‘advice’ from NOMADRUSHKY, we have decided that this challenge is something that we both have to take on.

We have realised that our bus passes are not the right thing for us at present, and that to raise money for Children’s Charities in less privileged parts of the world is for us.

We will also be raising money for MacMillan Nurses, and British Heart Foundation, as we both have personal reasons to support them.

BARRY (age 63 at time of challenge)
I have decided that at my time of life, I got out of the run of the mill lifestyle, and what better way than a 5,000 mile rally to Kyrgyzstan.  Although I am the baby compared to team partner Keith, I feel that with my relative youth, and Keith’s worldly ways, we will complete this challenge successfully.

KEITH (age 67 at time of challenge)
Retired Electrical Engineer, ex Hairy Biker, ex Scouter, Dad to Alex of the NoMad Rush team, making the most of renewed good health, looking forward to a serious challenge before the ‘Crumbles’ really set in.

The Charities

MacMillan Nurses.
The reason we are supporting MacMillan Nurses is Barry’s late partner Mary Eggleton, who passed away in 2006 after a long fight with Cancer.  They offered enduring support not just to the patient, but to Barry himself and to her family of loved ones, which was personally very comforting at a time of emotional stress and pressure.

British Heart Foundation
We are supporting the BHF because of the benefits that Keith now has since two stents were fitted over the last few years.  There is still a lot of research necessary into causes of heart conditions whether hereditary, diet or stress related, so that many more people can enjoy an enhanced quality of life.
